EDUCATION-TECH
Illinois SB0416, the Student Educational Technology Rights Act, requires every public school district to adopt an artificial intelligence technology policy by the 2027-2028 school year. Under Section 10, the policy must at minimum: (1) prohibit teachers from using an AI tool to assign a numerical score or grade for any task that requires professional judgment, and (2) require that any AI model used in relation to students or student work be approved by the school district, with a list of approved models distributed to all schools at the start of each school year and promptly after any revisions. Section 90 clarifies that the Act does not conflict with federal obligations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Act takes effect upon becoming law per Section 99.
