Mississippi Dyslexia Generative Artificial Intelligence Education and Workforce Development Act; create.
House Bill 1242, the 'Mississippi Dyslexia Generative Artificial Intelligence Education and Workforce Development Act,' establishes a state-funded program within the Mississippi Department of Education to create an open-access dyslexia curriculum paired with a generative AI system. Under Section 4, the program supports public schools, correctional education programs, adult literacy programs, and workforce development initiatives. Sections 5 and 6 designate Lighthouse Academy for Dyslexia and the Mississippi Dyslexia Institute as founding development partners; Lighthouse Academy retains intellectual property rights while the state receives a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free license for noncommercial educational use. The curriculum is aligned with Orton-Gillingham principles and is deemed a Mississippi-approved dyslexia curriculum consistent with Title 37, Chapter 173, Mississippi Code of 1972. Section 7 requires pilot programs lasting 6–10 months in at least three public school districts, two correctional education facilities, and two adult or workforce education programs. Section 8 mandates annual legislative reports on outcomes, cost efficiencies, and expansion recommendations. Section 9 authorizes an optional advisory council including parents, individuals with dyslexia, and representatives from relevant agencies. The act takes effect July 1, 2026 per Section 11.
