Mississippi Senate Bill 2429, the 'Artificial Intelligence in Education Task Force Act,' establishes a temporary AI in Education Task Force to evaluate AI applications in K-12 education and develop policy recommendations for responsible use by students and educators. Under Section 2, the task force may also identify workforce needs related to AI and recommend education and training programs aligned with industry demands. Section 3 sets up a 12-member task force chaired by the State Superintendent of Education, with four members each appointed by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House, covering expertise in education, technology, AI, ethics, data privacy, industry, and procurement; all appointments must be made by August 1, 2026. Section 4 requires the task force to meet at least four times between September and December 15, 2026, in public sessions, and directs it to: evaluate AI technology and its K-12 applications; assess ethical, legal, and privacy implications; develop policy recommendations on academic integrity, acceptable AI use, student/teacher data privacy, and parental access to student AI inputs; recommend AI integration into educational standards and curricula; develop educator training guidelines; propose monitoring criteria for student learning outcomes; recommend procurement requirements for AI software including content filters, parental review rights, vendor training, and prohibitions on unauthorized data sales; identify cross-sector collaboration opportunities; and promote equitable access to AI educational resources. Section 5 requires an interim report to House and Senate Education Chairs and the Governor by November 15, 2026, and a final report to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House by December 15, 2026, to be posted publicly on the Department of Education website. Section 6 dissolves the task force on January 1, 2027, and Section 7 sets an effective date of July 1, 2026.
