Public Chapter No. 1066 (Senate Bill No. 1493, substituted for House Bill No. 1455) is a Tennessee law on artificial intelligence. Section 1 directs the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) to study AI and produce a report. The study must: (1) identify and assess AI risks, including child safety risks, risk of death or bodily injury, and risk of significant property damage or loss; (2) explore ways to mitigate those risks; (3) review national standards, international standards, and industry-consensus best practices; (4) explore ways to regulate or prohibit AI from giving dangerous prompts, such as encouraging suicide or violent crime; (5) identify the risks of an AI chatbot acting as if it were human and providing emotional support, mental health care, or health care; and (6) explore any other topic related to safe AI use. TACIR must submit the report to the governor, the speaker of the senate, and the speaker of the house of representatives by January 31, 2027. Section 2 makes the act effective upon becoming law. The act itself creates no new regulatory requirements for AI developers or deployers. The official record shows it was signed by the Governor on 2026-05-22.
